Oak decaying wood harbors taxonomically and functionally different bacterial communities in sapwood and heartwood

چکیده

Wood decay is an important process in forest ecosystems, which relies on wood chemical properties and the action of a complex community decomposers. While role fungi this recognized, our knowledge concerning colonization decaying by bacteria, their relative distribution as well potential functional roles remain under-investigated. In context, aim was to characterize how bacterial communities are structured at both taxonomic levels along soil-wood continuum, using oak discs positioned floor for nine months. Using combination culture-dependent -independent methods associated physical measure decay, we evidenced that middle stage investigated, heartwood- sapwood-inhabiting significantly differed from one another term richness composition, but also those bulk soil. The screening revealed low metabolic potentials higher frequency cellulose decomposing bacteria than soil, suggesting adaptation these habitat physical-chemical conditions occurring wood. Together, data evidence based deterministic linking extrinsic intrinsic factors.

Distribution of terpenes in heartwood and sapwood of loblolly pine

The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of terpenes in loblolly pine with respect to the potential impact of volatile organic compound emissions during drying. The total terpene content in the inside, middle, and outside of increment core sections from twelve 40-year-old loblolly pines was determined over a period of 14 months. A method for extracting and analyzing terpene...

Bacterial Associations with Decaying Wood: a Review

Wood-inhabiting bacteria are associated with wood decay and may have an indirect influence on the decay process. Bacteria are able to affect wood permeability, attack wood structure, or work synergistically with other bacteria and soft-rot fungi to predispose wood to fungal attack. Bacteria that can inhabit chemically treated wood are recognized. The natural ability of certain bacterial genera ...

Impact of Phanerochaete chrysosporium on the Functional Diversity of Bacterial Communities Associated with Decaying Wood

Bacteria and fungi naturally coexist in various environments including forest ecosystems. While the role of saprotrophic basidiomycetes in wood decomposition is well established, the influence of these fungi on the functional diversity of the wood-associated bacterial communities has received much less attention. Based on a microcosm experiment, we tested the hypothesis that both the presence o...

Comparative metagenomics reveals taxonomically idiosyncratic yet functionally congruent communities in periodontitis

The phylogenetic characteristics of microbial communities associated with periodontitis have been well studied, however, little is known about the functional endowments of this ecosystem. The present study examined 73 microbial assemblages from 25 individuals with generalized chronic periodontitis and 25 periodontally healthy individuals using whole genome shotgun sequencing. Core metabolic net...
